Renewing your subscription

Confidant subscriptions auto-renew annually by default. Here's how to manage that and what happens around renewal time.

Auto-renewal

Your card on file is charged once a year on your renewal date. You'll get an email receipt. No action needed from you to keep the subscription active.

Updating payment method

Manage your payment method through your account on the Confidant website (linked from your purchase email). Card changes take effect at the next renewal.

Renewing after a lapse

If your subscription has lapsed (e.g. card declined and you didn't update it), Confidant will surface a banner letting you know. From there:

  1. Click the renewal link in the banner, or visit your account on the Confidant website
  2. Update payment if needed and renew
  3. Restart Confidant

The yearly silent license check will pick up your renewed status, or you can force a re-check from Settings → Account → License.

What happens during the silent yearly check

About once a year (silently, in the background) Confidant calls our license server to confirm your subscription is still active. If your network is on, this happens with no interruption. The check sends only your license key; nothing else.

If the check fails (revoked subscription, server unreachable for an extended period), you'll see a banner indicating "We couldn't verify your license. Updates are paused until you reconnect." Confidant continues to work for recording and note generation; you just won't get updates until the check succeeds.

"It's been a while since Confidant checked" prompt

If your network is normally off and you haven't done a license/update check in 30 days, Confidant pops a one-time prompt asking permission to do a single check now. This is the only way the app contacts the network when you've turned network access off. You can decline; the app continues to work.

Cancellation

Cancel anytime through your account on the Confidant website. Your license remains active until the end of your current billing period.

After cancellation, you can keep using your installed version of Confidant indefinitely. Updates and customer support stop at the end of your billing period. See Cancellation and refunds for the full policy.
