Cancellation and refunds

How to cancel

Through your account on the Confidant website (linked from your purchase email). Cancellation is a one-click action — we don't bury it.

After cancellation:

  • Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
  • Auto-renewal is off; your card will not be charged again
  • You can resubscribe anytime, no penalty

What happens to your data after cancellation

Your data stays on your computer. Cancelling Confidant doesn't delete anything — patients, sessions, transcripts, and notes are untouched.

You can keep launching Confidant and using your data indefinitely after cancellation. The installed version of the app continues to work; you just won't receive updates. See Update coverage explained.

If you want to remove Confidant entirely:

  • macOS — drag Confidant.app from Applications to Trash, then delete ~/Library/Application Support/com.confidant.notes/
  • Windows — uninstall via Settings → Apps, then delete %APPDATA%\com.confidant.notes\

The data folder is the only place your encrypted database lives. Once that folder is deleted, your data is gone — even we can't recover it.

Refund policy

We offer a 30-day no-questions-asked refund for new subscriptions. If Confidant isn't what you needed, contact support within 30 days of your initial purchase and we'll refund you in full.

Refunds outside the 30-day window are handled case-by-case. We try to be reasonable — if your card was billed for a renewal you didn't intend (e.g. you forgot to cancel before renewal), we'll usually refund and cancel.

We don't pro-rate refunds for the unused portion of an active billing period. If you cancel partway through a year, you keep the active subscription through the end of that year — that's your "refund" of the unused portion.

Special cases

  • Card disputes / chargebacks — please contact us directly first. We can almost always resolve issues without involving the card network, and chargebacks cost both sides money.
  • Death / disability — if a license needs to be terminated due to the holder's death or disability, contact us with documentation and we'll handle it sensitively. No fee.
  • Fraud / unauthorized purchase — if a charge appeared without your authorization, contact us immediately so we can investigate and refund.

Reactivation

Resubscribe through the same account on the Confidant website. Your data is still there, your installed app picks up the new license, no migration required.
