The Case Overview

The Case Overview is a running summary of your patient — presenting concerns, treatment trajectory, working clinical picture. Confidant generates and updates it automatically as you finalize sessions, and it gives the AI context when writing future notes.

Where it lives

On the patient detail page, below the profile info and above the session list. Once it's been generated, you'll see a paragraph of summary text. Before the first finalized session, it shows the placeholder "Case overview will be generated after the first finalized note."

How it's generated

After you finalize a session note, Confidant uses that note (plus any prior finalized notes) to write or update the patient's case overview. This happens silently in the background.

You can also trigger it manually:

1. Open the patient
2. Make sure at least one session is finalized
3. Click Generate in the top-right of the Case Overview section

This regenerates the overview from scratch using all currently finalized session notes.

Why it matters

Two reasons:

1. Context for future note generation. When you generate a note for a new session, the AI receives the case overview as context. This means it knows the patient's history, presenting concerns, and what's been worked on — without you having to retype any of that.
2. Quick re-orientation. Glance at it before a session to remember the long arc, especially for patients you see infrequently.

What it includes

The AI is instructed to capture:

• Presenting concerns and major themes
• Diagnostic considerations (if discussed)
• Treatment focus and modality
• Patterns or progress across sessions
• Notable risk factors or supports

It's not a session-by-session log — for that, scroll the session list. The overview is the bird's-eye view.

Editing the overview

The overview field on the detail page is currently display-only — it's regenerated rather than directly edited. If something is wrong, the right path is:

1. Edit and finalize the relevant session note(s) so the underlying source is correct
2. Click Generate in the Case Overview section to rebuild

Privacy and the case overview

Like everything else in Confidant, the case overview lives in your local encrypted database. It's not shared, synced, or backed up to anything we can read. Generation happens locally, on your device.
