Editing a draft note
The note editor is fully editable until you finalize. Click into any section, type, save. There's no "edit mode" toggle.
What's editable
- Subjective (or Data, in DAP)
- Objective (SOAP only)
- Assessment
- Plan
- Session Recap
- Diagnosis (DSM-5-TR code picker — search by code or name, e.g. "F41.1" or "anxiety")
Edits autosave as you type, with a short debounce. There's no separate save button — close the session, come back tomorrow, your edits are still there.
What's not editable
- The transcript (the source-of-truth from your session — editing it would mislead any future regeneration)
- The session metadata (date, duration, audio file)
If the transcript is genuinely wrong (a misheard word that changes meaning), the right path is to edit the note directly to reflect what was actually said.
Tips for fast editing
- The editor uses standard textareas — Cmd-Z (undo), Cmd-Shift-Z (redo) work as expected
- Cmd-A selects all in the current section, useful for "this whole paragraph needs rewriting"
- The transcript pane on the right (if shown) is for reference while you write — you can copy phrases out of it
When to edit vs regenerate
- Edit when the note is mostly right but specific phrasing is off or facts are slightly wrong
- Regenerate when the whole tone is off (too long, too short, wrong modality voice, missed a major topic), or when you want a different format
For partial regeneration of one section, use the regeneration approach with a revision instruction — you can tell the AI "make the assessment shorter" and only that section will change.
Editing after finalizing
Once you finalize a note, all sections become read-only. The Finalized indicator replaces the Finalize button. To edit again, you'd need to unlock — currently this requires clicking the session header and using the unlock action (or contact support if you don't see it).
The reason for the lock is medico-legal: a finalized note represents the official clinical record at a specific time. Editing it after the fact muddies that record.
