Copying and exporting notes

Confidant gives you four ways to get a note out: copy a single section, copy the whole note, export every session for a patient as a CSV, or save a single note as a PDF.

Copy a single section

  1. Open the note (must be in Notes Ready or Finalized state)

  2. Hover the section header (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan, etc.) — a small Copy link appears on the right

  3. Click it. The clipboard gets the section heading plus the section text

This is the fastest way to drop one section into a specific field of an EHR — for example, pasting just the Plan into a treatment plan field.

The Session Recap section does not have a per-section Copy button — the recap is for your own pre-session reference, not for the clinical record.

Copy the whole note

  1. Open the note (Notes Ready or Finalized)

  2. Click Copy at the top of the note editor

  3. The button briefly changes to Copied! to confirm

The clipboard receives plain text formatted like this:

SUBJECTIVE:
[paragraph]OBJECTIVE:
[paragraph]ASSESSMENT:
[paragraph]PLAN:
[paragraph]DIAGNOSIS: F41.1 — Generalized Anxiety Disorder

For DAP notes, you get DATA / ASSESSMENT / PLAN instead of the four SOAP sections. Diagnosis appears only if you've set one. The Session Recap is intentionally not included in copy output — it's a pre-session reference for the therapist, not part of the clinical record.

Paste straight into your EHR's note field. Most EHRs handle the section headers cleanly; some may want them removed.

Export all sessions as CSV

For per-patient bulk export, the patient detail page has a CSV option:

  1. Open the patient

  2. Click Export CSV at the top of the page (next to the other patient-level actions)

  3. Pick a save location — Confidant writes a CSV with one row per session

Columns: Patient, Date, Duration, Session Type, Status, Note Format, Diagnosis Code, Diagnosis, Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan. The Session Recap is intentionally excluded for the same reason as the per-note copy.

This is the right export for moving records out of Confidant in bulk — for example, switching EHRs or producing a reviewable archive.

Save as PDF

There's no dedicated PDF button. To produce a PDF of a single note:

  1. Open the note

  2. Click Export PDF at the top of the note editor

  3. Your OS print dialog appears

  4. Choose Save as PDF (or print directly to a printer)

The print view is a clean, page-formatted version of the note — section headers, the diagnosis, your patient's name at the top. Most therapists who need a hand-off PDF use this flow.

When each makes sense

  • Per-section Copy when your EHR has separate fields for each SOAP section

  • Copy whole note when your EHR has one big "session note" field. Most therapists end up here.

  • CSV export for bulk moves, supervisor review, or audit copies

  • PDF (print → Save as PDF) for paper records, insurance submissions, or sharing with a supervisor or attorney

What's not exported

The transcript and audio file are not exported with the note. Both stay inside Confidant for your reference but aren't part of what gets handed off.

If you need the transcript exported separately, it's currently a copy-paste from the transcript pane in the session view. A formal transcript export is on the roadmap.

Privacy reminder

Once you copy or export, the data has left Confidant's encrypted database. Whatever you paste it into — your EHR, an email, a clipboard manager — has its own privacy posture. Be deliberate about where it lands.
