Completing onboarding

Written by Jason

The first time you open Confidant, a few screens get it ready. Most of the time goes to one download, the AI that runs on your computer. Then a short guide inside the app helps you set your note style and try a sample session.

The setup screens

1. License agreement

Read it, tick the box and click Accept & continue.

2. Welcome

A quick look at how Confidant keeps everything on your computer. Click Let's get started.

3. Tell us about you

  • Your name (required), shown in the app.

  • Practice name (optional), shown at the top of the sidebar if you leave your name blank.

  • License number (optional), shown on exported notes if you include it in the note header.

  • Your practice approach. Tick the modalities you use. This is your default for new clients and shapes the clinical language in notes. You can set a different approach for any client later.

None of this leaves your computer. Click Continue.

4. On-device setup

Confidant needs a one-time download to transcribe and write notes on your computer. It shows the total size next to your free disk space, then asks three questions:

  • Transcription: More accurate (about 1.6 GB, recommended) or Faster, smaller (about 466 MB).

  • Note generation: Pro or Standard. Confidant checks your computer's memory and graphics and marks the one that fits with Recommended for this computer. Pick that one. See System requirements.

  • Speaker separation: Add speaker separation (recommended) labels who said what more accurately. Skip for now still works, and you can add it later in Settings.

Click Start download. The downloads run one after another, and you can leave the screen and come back. If one fails, click Retry on that row. When it says Your device is ready, click Continue.

If your computer doesn't have enough memory for note generation, this screen tells you. You can still record and transcribe there.

5. Privacy & permissions

  • Your microphone: click Allow microphone and approve the prompt. It shows Allowed when done.

  • App lock (optional): click Turn on lock to require Touch ID or your password (Windows Hello on Windows) when Confidant opens. You can change this later in Settings › Privacy › Privacy & security.

Click Continue.

6. Start your free trial

You get 14 days of full access, with no credit card needed. After that, it's $29.99 a month, or buy it once for $359. Both come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • To start, click Start free trial.

  • Already bought Confidant? Under Have a license key?, paste your key and click Activate license. See Activating your license.

When the trial ends, nothing is locked or deleted. You can still open, read, edit and export everything. Starting new sessions and generating notes wait until you subscribe or buy.

7. You're all set

Click Go to Confidant.

Your first steps in the app

When Confidant opens, a Welcome to Confidant guide walks you through five short steps:

  1. How notes should read: pick your note format and detail level.

  2. What happens to recordings: choose how long audio is kept. Deleted audio can't be recovered, so this is the one to get right.

  3. Teach it your voice: about 30 seconds of speaking, so transcripts label you as Therapist automatically. Your voice profile stays on your computer.

  4. Add your first client: only the name is required.

  5. Try the sample session: a practice session that's already transcribed. Generate a note from it to see how your choices read.

Click I'll finish later any time. The guide shrinks to a Setup card in the sidebar, so you can pick up where you left off.
